One man, One briefcase, One bomb

Stauffenberg is the full length feature film concept of the story of Claus von Stauffenberg and the assassination attempt of Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. Twelve years in the making, the film was written and conceived to pay homage to a man who dedicated the last years of his life to righting the wrongs of Nazi Germany. The film seeks to capture the essence of Claus - warts and all, for he was not perfect. He made mistakes. But he did what any man would do. When he saw his failures, he attempted to undo the past. He was an engima to those who knew him. He was kind, he was generous, he was intelligent and he was humorous. But he was also dedicated and principled and when the time came for him to make a choice - a choice that involved life and death, he made it - without fear and without doubt. On the night of July 20th, 1944, a day that could have immortalized him in the history books, he was put to death by one of his fellow conspirators. He died having fully accepted his tacit complicity in the Nazi terror. Claus von Stauffenberg, though, was not a Nazi. He was not a traitor. He was not even a hero. He was an elite General Staff Officer with a conscience and with the will and fortitude to try to change the world. Above all, he was that rarest of all creatues. Claus Philip Schenck von Stauffenberg was a man.
